Our story
Benj and Leah Matzke of Great Heritage Farm
They said it couldn't be done

I was told I'd have to marry a farmer
or inherit a fortune.

Neither of those things happened.

My husband Benjamin and I started with nothing but student loan debt and a single income of $13.50 an hour. Today, we run Great Heritage Farm LLC — 144 acres nestled in southern Minnesota — raising grass-fed beef, pastured pork, raw milk, and eggs for our family and a wonderful community that has become dear to us.

The longer I live, the more I see God's hand in all of it — in the struggles, the mistakes, and the many blessings. Every hard season grew us in ways the easy years never could.

"Leah, stop trying to do everything on your own! Successful people don't work alone — they collaborate. Open your life up, find a community, and watch how you flourish."

The advice that changed everything

That's the heart of MakeIt US. We are stronger when we work together. I care deeply about community and creating spaces where people can grow and support one another.

Talking with Benj and Leah gave me something I'd let myself lose—dreaming again. I visited their farm last year, and seeing what they've built without waiting for everything to be perfect was exactly what I needed. So many people look put together on the outside, and I realized that isn't a requirement. You can start messy. You can start real.

About Leah

Christian mom, farmer,
and forever a student of joy

I'm wife to Benjamin and mom to 5 incredible kids — more than half of them are teenagers now, and honestly? They are awesome.

I love helping families grow strong, farms thrive, and joy overflow. Christ is my anchor in every season — the golden ones and the ones that bring you to your knees. I bounce back every time, and I want to help you do the same.

Someone once told me I never have a bad day. The truth is I do — I just have a source of joy that doesn't depend on the day going right.

That's what this community is built on. Not a perfect farm, not a perfect life — but a real one, shared together.
